An aspiring model who found out she was Kree.
Created by Barbara Kesel and Leonard Kirk for a three-issue series in 1996, she went on to the Secret Avengers, the Initiative and the New Warriors.
Suzy Sherman was a California teenager with a modelling career in mind when, over a few days, her body changed: stronger, faster, and then airborne. The explanation, when it came, was that she was not human at all. She was Kree, born Tsu-Zana, a warrior of the alien empire that runs through Marvel's cosmic stories, and the new abilities were her inheritance: flight, superhuman strength, vision across the spectrum and a body that heals itself.
Barbara Kesel wrote and Leonard Kirk drew her own series, Ultragirl #1 to #3, cover-dated November 1996 to March 1997. A decade on she was back in Civil War #5 (November 2006) with Captain America's Secret Avengers, then in Avengers: The Initiative from issue #6 (November 2007), the training programme for registered heroes, where she and Thor Girl were posted to Georgia. Carol Danvers, impressed, handed her the old Ms. Marvel costume; the Avengers' ownership of the design meant she had to give it back. After saving Justice from Ragnarok she left the Initiative for his New Warriors.
The 1996 series and the Initiative run are in Marvel's digital back catalogue and in collected editions; the three below are on Amazon. The Marvel Database keeps the full appearance list.
