The comic-book side came first, at a spinner rack, in Supergirl's own books. Not a sidekick's adventures or a cousin's understudy — her own blue-and-red costume, her own line, her own name on the cover.
Then came Saturday-morning reruns: Lynda Carter turning in place to become Wonder Woman, and Yvonne Craig's Batgirl, a woman who held her own in a room built for two men.
When it came time to imagine UltraGirl, those three overlapped: Supergirl's primary-color costume, worn the way Wonder Woman wore her belt as a mark of power rather than decoration, carried with the same stand-on-her-own confidence as Batgirl. UltraGirl isn't any one of the three. She's what happens when a lifelong fan tries to draw all of them at once and can't put the pencil down.
That habit hasn't worn off. New stories, new pages, new people asking who she is — this site is where that keeps happening.
